Holistic Therapy - Beyond the Talking Cure
What this is
A deeper layer of the work
Most of what I do with clients is grounded in evidence-based counselling and psychotherapy — conversation, reflection, pattern recognition, EMDR, Schema Therapy. That's the foundation, and for many people it's sufficient.
But some people sense — often correctly — that there is another layer. That something is held not just in the mind but in the body's history, in the energy field, in patterns passed down through family lines, in experiences that existed before language was available to process them. For those people, staying only in the cognitive and conversational register misses something important.
This is the work that goes there. Not instead of the clinical foundation — alongside it. And always at your pace, in your direction, shaped entirely by what you bring and what feels useful to you.
Nothing here is imposed. You don't need to identify as spiritual or energetically sensitive to benefit from it. And you don't need to know in advance whether any of this is for you — that becomes clear as we work together.
Some experiences lived before language. Some healing needs to reach that far back.
What's available
Two streams of deeper work
When the work calls for it, I draw on two related streams — energetic and intuitive approaches, and creative and expressive approaches. Both serve the same purpose: reaching what talk alone cannot.
Energetic & Intuitive
For those who sense their difficulties have an energetic or intuitive dimension — or who have had experiences that conventional therapy hasn't known what to do with.
-
Guided visualisation and meditation
-
Energy healing through visualisation
-
Clearing trapped beliefs, programs, and emotional blockages
-
Emotion Code — identifying and releasing trapped emotions
-
Ancestral healing — patterns and wounds carried across generations
-
Intuitive insight within the therapeutic relationship
Creative & Expressive
For when experience lives below language — in the nervous system, in the body's memory, in the pre-verbal. Creative approaches offer a pathway in that words don't always provide.
-
Art-based approaches — drawing, mark-making, expressive visual work
-
Processing pre-verbal and somatic experience through creative expression
-
Working with imagery, symbol, and metaphor as therapeutic tools
-
Nervous system regulation through creative and expressive process
Something worth knowing
This isn't a separate offering
You won't find "holistic therapy session" as a separate booking option at Zanti. That's deliberate.
These approaches are available within the therapeutic relationship — woven in when they're relevant, when you're ready, and when you want them. Some clients work with me for years and never need to go near this territory. Others find it becomes the most significant part of the work. Most land somewhere in between.
What guides it is always this: what do you need, right now, to move forward? The approach follows you — not the other way around.
Who finds their way here
You might be in the right place if…
You've had experiences — spiritual, energetic, intuitive — that previous therapists haven't known what to do with, or have gently pathologised. You've felt the need to leave parts of yourself at the door.
Or you've done good work in therapy and hit a ceiling — a sense that something important is still untouched, still held somewhere the talking hasn't reached.
Or you wouldn't describe yourself as spiritual at all — but you feel things deeply, carry things in your body, and sense that your history runs deeper than your own life story.
All of these are ways of arriving at the same place. And all of them are welcome here.
Common questions
Do I have to do energy work or creative therapy to work with Karie?
No. The approach is tailored entirely to you. Some clients never need anything beyond counselling and EMDR. Others find that energetic, intuitive, or creative approaches reach something that conversation alone doesn't touch. Nothing is imposed — the work unfolds from what you bring and what feels useful to you.
Is this spiritual or religious?
No. This work doesn't require any spiritual belief and isn't affiliated with any religion or tradition. It simply acknowledges that human beings have dimensions of experience — energetic, intuitive, creative, ancestral — that conventional therapy doesn't always address. You bring your own framework. The work meets you there.
What if I'm sceptical about energy work?
That's completely fine. Scepticism is welcome here. You never have to engage with any approach that doesn't feel right to you, and nothing is ever framed as something you need to believe in for it to be useful. If it's helpful, we use it. If it's not, we don't.
Is this the same as transpersonal counselling?
Related, but distinct. Transpersonal counselling is a psychological framework — it addresses questions of meaning, identity, consciousness, and the deeper dimensions of inner life, primarily through conversation and depth-oriented work. Holistic therapy is about the tools and approaches that go beyond conversation — energetic, intuitive, creative, and expressive. They often work together, and the boundary between them is fluid in practice.
